As a Scottsdale personal trainer I constantly get asked the question of how to lose those last few stubborn pounds. Why is it that you can get so close to your weight goal, but those last 5 pounds still hang around like an almost empty ketchup bottle in the fridge… let’s get RID OF IT ALREADY!

Well this Scottsdale personal trainer has good and bad news for you!

The GOOD news :Â it IS possible and can take as little as 2 weeks.

The BAD news : it will require additional effort and discipline on your part to make it happen!

This Scottsdale personal trainer believes in YOU and knows YOU CAN DO IT! How? Let this Scottsdale personal trainer give you some tips!First off, know how many calories you need to have in a day. Don’t know what that number is? Click here to calculate it.

Secondly, start writing down what you are eating and or drinking! This includes gum, carrot sticks, and oh ya… EVERYTHING ELSE! This may seem tedious, but as a Scottsdale personal trainer, I PROMISE its effectiveness is unmatched! Many calories go unaccounted for due to “grazing” or “drive-by-style-eating”. You know what I mean… that quick trip to the kitchen for a dip into the chips adds up(lots of unplanned rhyming there).

Thirdly, eat more green fresh veggies! GREENS make you LEAN.

Fourthly, try to ditch carbs after 2 pm. Or if you are on a funky schedule, make your lunch the last carb you have for the day. This does not mean STOCK UP! So while you are working on those last 5 pounds, make sure your dinner is just protein and veggies. Some examples could be salmon and broccoli, BBQ chicken with green beans, or a sizzingly steak salad! You will be amazed what this carb reducing will do. I emphasize the word reduce because healthy carbs ARE good for you and you still want them in your diet…just try to get in your healthy carbs before dinner.

Fifthly, mix up your cardio routine in the gym! ( I’m assuming you are already going to the gym…if not, well HELLO that’s easy… there are your last 5 pounds). If you normally work out 4 days a week, bump it up to 6 days a week. Maybe you normally do the treadmill for 30 minutes… try the stair master for 45 minutes. MIX IT UP! Try to do every single piece of cardio machine the gym has! GET OUT OF YOUR RUT! Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results is craziness! Leave your cell phone and all other distractions at home… you want to be focused and INTENSE in the gym!

Sixthly, PUMP IRON! Lift lift lift! If you already do then GREAT, if not START! Try news machines, explore the free weights, hire a Scottsdale personal trainer(me, duh) for a few sessions to give you new moves and ideas. YOU NEED TO LIFT WEIGHTS!

How is Seventhly a word? NUMBER 7: Replace one “staple” ( something you eat EVERYDAY) food with the healthiest version of it you can find. For example if you have a piece of toast with your breakfast make sure its a whole grain option, not white. (I like, no, LOVE Ezekiel bread…try the orange packaged whole wheat kind). Or if you drink a glass of 2 percent milk everyday, try organic nonfat milk instead. Love peanut butter like me? Try Trader Joes organic, unsalted kind (major YUM)

Last but not least…STICK WITH IT! It is so easy to be temporarily inspired and do really good for 3 days then fall off the wagon. Stay focused. Put up pictures or quotes that inspire you to not give up! I guarantee that if you faithfully, without any cheats, put your Scottsdale personal trainer’s tips into action, you will see results.

I triple dog dare ya! On your mark…get set… GO!
