As a Scottsdale personal trainer, I see people OBSESS over their biceps in the gym. Curl after curl. Pump, pump, pump. Girls and boys alike do it. The guys desperately trying to bulk up their arms… they ladies struggling to tone and slim down their arms.

YET, everybody is neglecting the BACK side of the arm… the tricep muscle.

As a Scottsdale personal trainer I think the triceps get forgotten, because they are “behind” you in essence. Whereas, the biceps seem so predominately placed in front.

BUT did you know…

The tricep muscle makes up 2/3 of your upper arm muscles, while the bicep makes up only 1/3.

It is CLEAR that the tricep trumps the bicep in size !

Check it out:

So whether you are trying to bulk up or slim down, you need to take your focus OFF the bicep a bit and crank the heat up on your triceps.

As your Scottsdale personal trainer, I can guarantee that you will see way better and FASTER results if you start incorporating a couple more tricep exercises into your routines.

Here are a few of my favorites !

The first exercise I want to show you is the tricep dip. Dips are HARD, but SUPER effective,

Start with your legs bent as seen below. If that is too easy then straighten your legs out. Always keep your butt close to the bench as you lift up and down.

Don’t forget the classic rope pull down as found in all gyms.

Just be sure to keep elbows tucked in close to your body the while time. Don’t let them flare out. Also, as your bring the rope down, pull the rope apart (each hand aiming for its own corresponding leg). As you bring the rope back up, bring your hands back together. Don’t bring your hands above your chest level as seen in number one.

Lastly, are the classic skull crushers. The key to skull crushers is to NOT MOVE YOUR ELBOWS. Really try to keep them in the same place like the hinge of a door. Bend at your elbows and lower the weight down by your temples, then without moving your elbows, extend your arms back up to straight position.

Get busy cranking out some reps on those triceps… I can’t wait for you to be amazed at how the shape of your arm will change! (For the better, duh!)

=)
