Austin City Limits
Posted by Laurie Stilwell in Austin City Limits, Smorgasport on September 20, 2011
I dipped out for a long weekend to go to Austin City Limits for the first time. WOW! What an amazing music festival… Texas, you did good! Austin City Limits had some of my favorite bands playing there this year. Elbow, My Morning Jacket, and new fav of mine… Young the Giant. Austin City Limits was quite the treat. I was a giddy girl, hopping from stage to stage, catching all my most loved acts.
Austin City Limits is a three day annual music event, that typically books over 130 acts, and sells over 70,000 tickets a day. It takes place at the beautiful 350 acre park, Zilker Park. That’s HUGE! It was roughly half a mile from one main stage to the next! Take a look below at the Austin City Limits festival grounds.
Imagine walking from stage to stage… a couple times a day and for three days straight. Let me tell you, my BUTT WAS SORE! Austin City Limits serves to show that you do not need to go to the gym to get a workout in. All you need is TO LIVE LIFE! Get out there and MOVE! For me, my “workout” for the weekend was simply attending Austin City Limits. I literally had to buy a bandanna to dry off all the sweat that was constantly pouring from me… and not just because it was hot outside. Between all the walking, dancing, fist-pumping, jumping, and running from stage to stage, I was beat. Oh, and on a totally gross note… the amount of squatting in porta potties I did was pretty remarkable. Haha, quite the workout when repeated several times a days for three days straight.
Below is a pic of me cooling off at the “mister station”… which composed of several giant fans blowing mist.
So thank you Austin City Limits for moving my heart on so many levels. It was an experience of a life time that will not be soon forgotten. Even now, my hamstrings are reminding me! =)

NEWPORT BEACH, CA

My husband and I were blessed to be able to spend a whole week in Newport Beach, CA on a family vacation. Wow, what a beautiful place. It’s impossible to have bad time there.
Needless to say we had a glorious time…long walks, bike riding, laying out in the warm sand of the beach… and oh ya, did you know that I am a pro boogie boarder? Yup.
And oh gosh, the FOOD! YUM. Sea food, burgers, ice cream cones and delicious “beachy” COCKTAILS! Ohhhh yaaa…
But don’t think I didn’t WORK OFF all those calories… I definitely had some intense beach and board walk runs… whew… I can still feel the sweat and salty air on my face.
I did my fair share of pushups, dips, lunges and squats too.
Working out is important to me and just because I am on vacation, doesn’t mean that my health is on vacation. I believe in balance and moderation. On all my vacations, I make a point to treat myself and indulge in some “naughty” foods. BUT, I still stick to my workout routine as much as possible. I can get my workout on ANYWHERE! The picture below is proof. (The people passing by on the board walk had a good laugh at me)
Next time you are on vacation carve out time to be active and get your sweat on. You really will enjoy your vacation so much more when you take care of your body. You will have less guilt about those dinners out and yummy desserts. You will have more energy and sleep more soundly so you can conquer the next day of fun ahead of you
