CHIPOTLE CHANGE

I have to admit that I LOVE Chipotle. On a busy day when I am slammed with sessions, I treat myself to a quick lunch or dinner at Chipotle. Not only is it YUMMY but also super convenient. I am sure you all can relate- life gets hectic. I bet some of you feel like some days you live in your car- always heading from one place to the next. Being able to eat on the go is a huge perk. As ideal as it is to cook and eat your meals at home, it is very unrealistic for many people.

The good news is that Chipotle can be a guilt free, healthy eating experience.

Chipotle gets their produce from local farmers and they stay committed to purchasing organics. Also, they use hormone and antibiotic-free meats. Having the buffet style is a great way for YOU to monitor exactly what and how much they put into your meal.

This is the part that requires YOU to make the “Chipotle Change”. YOU have to make the healthy choice- because trust me, as you can imagine- you CAN turn a good thing into a bad thing very easily at Chipotle. Just because the ingredients are healthy doesn’t mean that you can have them all and in such huge portions. You must make some changes.

BUT, eating at Chipotle is 100% OK with me if you can commit to these changes by following some basic guidelines.

#1

Pick a bowl- ditch the tortilla!

Did you know the tortillas are nearly three hundred calories? YIKES!

#2

Pick BROWN rice and ask for half the amount. ( do you really need the amount they slop on? )

#3

PICK chicken because it is the leanest meat they offer. OR BETTER, go VEGGIE! The veggie bowl still has plenty of protein when you add in things like beans, green peppers, or guacamole.

#4

Fill the bowl up with things that are low in calories like green peppers and onions, lettuce and salsa. But be careful with the corn salsa because it has significantly more calories than the other salsas.

#5

SKIP the CHEESE! I promise you will not miss it!!

#6

Ask for the sour cream and guacamole ON THE SIDE! This alone will save you TONS of calories! Once they give it to you on the side, use HALF the amount they give you. Even still, you will have plenty! TELL ME IF I AM WRONG!

#7

SKIP THE CHIPS! They have TONS of calories and they are heavy laden in salt!

SO check this out! Following my guidelines will literally cut the calories and fat in half!

I personally eat the veggie bowl with black beans, brown rice, peppers and onions, hot salsa, corn salsa, lettuce, and half the amount of sour cream and guacamole. My meal is under 500 calories, less than 20 grams of fat, less than 16 grams of sugar, and over 15 grams of protein.

Don’t believe me?

For fun, build a typical burrito and then build a bowl with my guidelines…remembering to cut the calories in half for the rice, sour cream, and guacamole.

You will quickly see how making a few, smart changes, can REALLY make a difference.
