Often times people claim they eat healthy, yet somehow America is 2/3 overweight. How does this add up? It doesn’t. Many people are mislead and confused about what healthy eating actually looks like.

I could take this conversation a million different ways, but I want to keep it simple. Seeing as how we are a predominately overweight nation, I want to focus specifically on fat loss foods today. Below I compiled a list of healthy foods that specifically help to burn fat.

Two major characteristic about fat loss foods is 1) they should have more protein and fiber relative to sugar/carbohydrate and 2) they should be higher in water content than sugar content.

So, with that in mind, here is my recommended list of foods that PROMOTE fat loss:Fat loss food #1

Broccoli- detoxifies estrogen in the liver, creating a better fat burning balance of estrogen and progesterone. Don’t like broccoli? Cabbage, brussel sprouts, choy, and cauliflower all come from the same cruciferous family as broccoli and will do the same thing.

Fats loss food #2

Asparagus- high fiber/low sugar diuretic

Fat loss food #3

Spinach/Leafy Greens – loaded with fiber and water, next to no carbs, and loaded with vitamins…particularly vitamin B which is important for energy metabolism

Fat loss food #4

Apples-packed with fiber and vitamins

Fat loss food #5

Berries- low glycemic index fruit

Fat loss food #6

Grapefruit- at almost 90 percent water, this fruit is low on the glycemic index

Fat loss food #7

Sweet potato- filled to the brim with minerals, they also have a lower glycemic index that white potatoes

Fat loss food #8

Pea or rice protein powder- though I like whey and casein powder products, pea/rice powders are better for FAT LOSS… they are low in sugar and are hypoallergenic.

Fat loss food #9

Oat Bran- better than oatmeal due to its higher protein and fiber content

Fat loss food #10

Chicken breasts- known as the fat loss staple…this protein is lean and low in fat.

Fat loss food #11

Lean Turkey-go for ground or turkey breast that is 93-99 percent lean

Fat loss food #12

White Fish(halibut, cod)- lean protein food with low calories

Fat loss food #13

Grass fed beef- eating lean cuts of this provides protein

Packaged food labels can be tricky to interpret. Yet, I understand that some times packaged foods are the easiest option during a busy day. A good rule of thumb is to subtract the fiber and protein from the total carbohydrates on the label and it should equal ten or less.

Notice what all the fat loss foods above have in common? They are all nutritionally dense, calorically lower, and have plenty of protein and fiber. If your goal is fat loss, then stick to what I have outlined above and of course be active and drink water.
